Energy Savings Tips

When it comes to using less electricity, it helps to know where it’s going first. Take a look at the top energy users in an average home and see how much you can save.

Kitchen

-Clean the coils on the bottom or back of your fridge periodically.
-Keep your fridge temperature between 35-38° and your freezer at 5°.
-Air dry dishes instead of using the dishwasher's drying heater.

Bathroom

-Set your water heater to a comfortable 120°.
-Use a water heater jacket to improve efficiency.

Laundry Room

-Wash your clothes in cold or warm water.
-Check your vents regularly and clean lint filters after every load.
-Dry similar items together and use your dryer's moisture sensor.

Everywhere Else

-Program your thermostat rather than switch it off and on if possible.
-Set a reminder to clean or replace your air filter every 3 months or more, especially if you have pets.
-Use LED bulbs. Compared to incandescent lights, they’re 75% more efficient.
-Use power strips and shut the strip off when it's not in use.
-Turn the blinds toward the ceiling and close the curtains to prevent both cold and heat from entering.

Easy, rewarding energy is just a switch away
